I know America is the land of opportunity and all but surely that doesn’t mean everyone deserves that opportunity. Case in point, Dr Phil. I was in Barnes & Noble the other day and noticed that Dr Phil is hawking a weight loss book. Now I’m not having a go at the “horizontally challenged” (or whatever the politically correct term is), but Phil isn’t exactly your poster boy for fitness is he? I mean his picture is right there on the cover, and even after hours of Photoshop magic, he still appears puffy. Queen Oprah may have blessed him, but that hardly means you’re automatically an authority on any issue you choose. I mean the guy’s not even a registered therapist in the state of California (which incidentally, is where he tapes his daily talk show). Shit, I may as well buy Gary Busey’s book on sober living, or OJ’s book on healthy relationships. It’s simple; you wouldn’t hire a personal trainer with man boobs and a stomach that suggests he hasn’t seen his own penis in years. So why turn to “authorities” who flaunt their lack of credentials? All I’m saying is Dr Phil has about as much credibility in the weight loss department as he does in the “preventing hair loss” department. No doubt that book will be hitting our shelves later this year.
